March Featured Photographer: Casey Legler
March's featured photographer is the young Miss Casey Legler. Casey is a model as well as a photographer. Casey got into photography with a fun start as she explains, "I originally started playing around with my
mom's canon rebel that she got for Christmas in the later part of the
90's. I would follow my mom around
meadows and creeks around Wyoming and take pictures of everything from the
ripples in the streams, to moose, and the layers of clouds. My mom spent so
much money developing rolls and rolls of film that maybe had 5 decent pictures
per roll."
Now Casey is a photographer based in Casper, she briefly explained her style and philosophy, I prefer shooting boudoir or glamor/beauty sessions. There's no greater feeling than knowing when a client leaves they are feeling like they are on cloud 9. Every woman is beautiful, not one of us are the same. My main focus with my clients is to instill as much confidence as possible in the session. I expect each and every one of my clients to leave with a smile on their face and their eyes twinkling."
Casey has had the opportunity to work with a multitude of photographers and models, and shows her idols well. " My idols. Lol...... first and foremost, Hugo v. The way he can see an object and put his vision to life is phenomenal. He's definitely one of the best at creating angles and depth. Other idols would be Sue Bryce, Yousuf Karsh , and Ansel Adams. They each inspire me on so many different levels." She went on to say, " I've had the privilege to work with some very talented ladies! It's almost impossible for me to choose 1 out of all of them. They each have their special traits that draws me to them. One of the advantages of modeling and being a photographer, is having a deeper understanding of what it takes to come up with "that perfect shot!" My top favorite photographer's would be Hugo Velazquez , George Dunlap, & Vernon Miller. I've been lucky enough to work with a large variety of very talented photographers."
It's not all fun and games for photographers though, bad experiences do happen as Casey explained, "My worst experience was definitely when I was a second shooter at a wedding and the photographer I was working under told the brides mom that she didn't have time to photo shop the brides sister to appear smaller in their family photos. I was appalled, embarrassed, and upset to say the least. I was embarrassed to even be affiliated with said photography company." The good times though make up for the few bad, "My best experiences would have to be seeing the reaction of my clients when they see the finished product. The gleam in their eyes is so delightful and inspiring."
Casey also shared some great advice for new photographers, "My advice to new photographers would be practice makes perfect. Shadow a local photographer, take photography classes, and watch tutorials. Always have your camera on you! KEEP AN OPEN MIND AND dive in."
