April Featured Photographer: Fae Rogers
Fae Rogers is a very talented photographer serving the Spokane, Washington area, as well as ATG's April Photographer of the month. "If I really think about it, my grandpa Jerry. He was always taking candids of people and making sure we had lots of images of the family so we'd have memories of those events. When I had my son I took some accidental shots that came out showing this absolute beautiful child in a way I never thought was possible. This made me want to find beauty in people," she said when asked about how she got into photography. Since starting, Fae has done alot, " I've organized several different themed shoots, from things like Steampunk, to Swim Suit, to Cosplay, to Body Painting. Many of my projects include several models and photographers from around the area for the fun of creating art together. In 2013 I was asked to participate in the Seattle RAW Artist's show to display my photography along with several other types of artists. In January 2014 I was selected as 1 of 4 local photographers to be part of benefit runway show with The Vault Social Club and took 2nd Place. "
Fae is very proud of those she idolizes, " One of my idols right now is Jellyfish Jones. The woman is both a photographer and Alternative Model, and even Make-up Artist when the need calls for it. She has this amazing style to her work and I've found some much inspiration from her creative spirit. Another who I absolute adore is Josefine Jonsson! She takes this larger than life images that are so graceful and yet so artistic and colorful. It doesn't matter who she's shooting every image she shares is just flawless!" Despite having such gifted idols, Fae has opted to learn by doing as she explained, " I don't have any "formal" teachers. I learn from everyone work with. I go into every shoot with the attitude I'm going to learn something new. So in essence, everyone is my teacher in some way--good and bad."
It is very difficult for someone to not be a repeat collaborator with her she explains, "There's really only a few, and 90% is because of their attitude and choices to gossip, spread rumors, and negativity. They chose to resolve their situation or issue by resorting to under-handed tactics. I also refuse to work with people who cancel on me and lie about why they canceled." On the inverse, it is easy for her to find good in collaborators, "Honestly I can find something good in all the models and photographers I've worked with, yes there have been some not-so-great experiences but I've grown and become better for each experience I've had. I have so many favorite people that it's hard to pick just a few. Some of the best to work with are the ones who come in with a good attitude, are excited about what we're doing together, and walk away happy with the images I captured. "
Fae ended with some words of advice for up and coming photographers, " Try all kinds of new things! Don't worry about your technique or "style". Lean your camera! The rest will come from making mistakes, but don't be afraid to make them! Work with all kinds of people--photographers and models--and know that just because some has a different style or level of skill you CAN learn something from the situation. "
