The Mystery of Blacklists
By The Shaman of Sexxxy Abel Carv
The term "blacklist" is one that is very commonly used in the entertainment industry, but many amateurs and some professionals don't fully understand what one is. To be "blacklisted", "'86'd", or "blackballed" means that someone is on a person or organization's "blacklist". For the most part, anyone can have a blacklist, a blacklist is merely a list of people that a person, business, or organization won't work with. Photographers, agencies, shops, promoters, and designers can have blacklists, so being on one or a few can mean almost nothing to one's career. The impact of a blacklist depends on the clout of who's blacklist it is, ie the blacklist of a obscure craigslist photographer would have almost no pull, but being on the blacklist of a major agency or media outlet could be detrimental to your career. Now comes the difficult part, some blacklists are public, some are private, some specify why someone is on them, some don't. People can be blacklisted for any reason or no reason, even if its for no reason its not libel or slander, the only time that its slander or libel is if they specify a reason and the reason is untrue. Now that you know that, here is the trickier part, some people ask for and consult other people's blacklists and don't check facts, thus being blacklisted can leave you in perpetual mystery.
